Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Northlane (the "Service"), operated by Read Write Code ("we," "our," or "us"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.

We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. We will notify you of material changes via email.

2. Description of Service

Northlane is a personal finance management application that allows users to:

  • Connect financial accounts via Plaid for read-only data aggregation
  • Track spending, budgets, and recurring transactions
  • Monitor investment portfolios using market data from Yahoo Finance
  • Receive AI-powered financial insights and recommendations
  • Set and track personal financial goals

Northlane is an informational tool only. Nothing in the Service constitutes financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. Always consult a qualified professional for personalized advice.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years of age to use Northlane. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you are at least 18 years old, have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms, and are not prohibited from using the Service under applicable law.

4. Account Registration

To access Northlane, you must create an account. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration
  • Maintain and promptly update your account information
  • Keep your password secure and confidential
  • Be responsible for all activity under your account
  • Notify us immediately of any unauthorized access at [email protected]

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that provide inaccurate information or violate these Terms.

5. Subscription and Billing

5.1 Free Trial

New accounts receive a 30-day free trial with full access to all features. No credit card is required to start the trial. At the end of the trial period, continued access requires a paid subscription.

5.2 Subscription Fee

Northlane is offered at a flat rate of $7.99 per month. Subscriptions are billed monthly on the anniversary of your subscription start date.

5.3 Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You will retain access to the Service until that date. We do not provide partial refunds for unused time within a billing period, except as described in Section 5.4.

5.4 Refund Policy

If you are not satisfied within the first 30 days of a paid subscription, contact us at [email protected] for a full refund. After 30 days, all charges are final and non-refundable except where required by applicable law.

5.5 Price Changes

We may change our pricing at any time. We will provide at least 30 days' notice before any price increase takes effect. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the new price.

6. Third-Party Services

6.1 Plaid

Northlane uses Plaid Technologies, Inc. ("Plaid") to connect to your financial institutions. By connecting your accounts, you agree to Plaid's End User Privacy Policy. We access your financial data through Plaid using read-only permissions. We cannot and will never initiate transactions or move funds on your behalf.

6.2 Yahoo Finance

Market data and investment information is sourced from Yahoo Finance. This data is provided for informational purposes only. We make no guarantees as to the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of market data.

6.3 AI Services

Northlane uses AI models to generate financial insights. AI-generated insights are informational only and do not constitute professional financial advice. You should not make financial decisions based solely on AI-generated content.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service or its infrastructure
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service
  • Use automated tools to scrape, crawl, or extract data from the Service
  • Introduce viruses, malware, or other harmful code
  • Impersonate another person or entity
  • Use the Service in any way that could damage, overburden, or impair it

8. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its design, code, content, features, and functionality, is owned by Read Write Code and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the Service without our prior written consent.

You retain ownership of the data you input into the Service. By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to use your data solely to provide and improve the Service.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any information provided (including financial data or AI insights) is accurate, complete, or suitable for any particular purpose.

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, READ WRITE CODE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THESE TERMS OR YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Read Write Code and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the Service, violation of these Terms, or infringement of any third-party rights.

12. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, for conduct that violates these Terms or for any other reason at our sole discretion.

Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including intellectual property, disclaimer of warranties, limitation of liability, and governing law) will survive.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States and the state in which Read Write Code is incorporated, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction.

14. Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. By using the Service, you consent to the data practices described in the Privacy Policy.
